Does Makeup Really Make Me Pretty?

In the 21st century, we have a new saying: “Kilay is Life”.

The saying became popular when Bretman Rock first hit his fame on Facebook where it was shown he was doing a tutorial on how to put makeup. Bretman’s eyebrows were so thick that he embraced it and made fun of it, making it his trademark before he rose to fame. Many beauty gurus then popped out of nowhere, making the beauty industry a hit. But do you know why we wear makeup?

Is it because women want to be appealing or do they just want to blend in?

Women who are anxious and insecure tend to use makeup to simply blend in a crowd. This could be in the form of evading questions pertaining to paleness and the likes. Some, on the other hand, yearns to be noticed and utilize makeup to appear more confident.

Women have had it drilled into them from a young age that to be successful in life, they need to be pretty or presentable. According to the Science of People, attractive people are treated more favorably in every area of life, from dating to jobs to criminal trials.

Wearing makeup can boost one’s confidence because cosmetics can help one to feel more in control. Personally speaking, if I had to choose to be barefaced or made up, I’ll opt to wear makeup to gain more self-confidence.

Makeup does more than alter a woman’s attractiveness, it also plays a role in her ability to form a new relationship. Men look at women’s faces to determine attractiveness and makeup plays a big part in that. Women check other women’s makeup to help them in deciphering personality.

Some women who wear makeup feel that they are more dominant, powerful, and successful in their careers. On the other hand, other women perceive women who wear makeup as promiscuous – particularly in the case where women wear bold, sexy makeup.

Men tend to have varied opinions of women based on how much makeup she wears and how attractive it makes her appear.

Makeup is important but many women make the mistake of wearing too much that they lose its benefit. When makeup is not overdone, it makes women appear more likable, trustworthy and competent. Always be mindful of the impression you want to make and focus on using makeup to enhance your natural beauty.
