Fight The Lies, De Lima Tells Netizens

Senator Leila M. de Lima has urged netizens to not waver in their fight for truth and decency in government by continuing to speak out against the lies perennially peddled by the Duterte administration to discredit its perceived enemies like her.

De Lima, the first prominent political prisoner under the Duterte regime, also urged them to look at the current challenges facing the country and strengthen their firm resolve in fighting the excesses of the present administration.

In a handwritten letter addressed to her allies and supporters – most of whom are social media activists – last Sept. 15, De Lima wrote: “We fight and we fight more!”

“We fight the Lies. We fight Evil. We fight against any sense of helplessness, hopelessness or defeat,” said De Lima, who notably remains detained over trumped-up drug charges fabricated by the vindictive Duterte regime.

Since Mr. Duterte assumed presidency in 2016, the Filipinos have seen his administration blatantly deceive the citizenry with utter lies and massive propaganda for their personal and political gains.

De Lima is among the favorite targets of attacks by Mr. Duterte and his minions, with her currently being used as the government’s scapegoat to cover up for the corruption inside the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

Some allies of Mr. Duterte have implicated her in money-making schemes inside the BuCor, including the early release of inmates convicted of heinous crimes under the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) Law.

Amid her ordeal and her call to fight more during these trying times, De Lima said she hopes that God would continue to “sustain our spirit” even as she expressed her unwavering gratitude for their continued solidarity with her plight and causes.

A staunch critic of the administration’s murderous war on drugs, De Lima has earned the ire of Mr. Duterte for initiating a Senate investigation into the spate of extrajudicial killings in the country in July 2016, eventually leading to her unjust detention.

Known as a prisoner of conscience, De Lima has consistently maintained that no amount of lies by political manipulators and even paid trolls could erase her innocence from all trumped-up illegal drug charges filed against her by the government.
