It seems like this month we are getting a big wave of musical acts who have set dates during this rainy season to come to Manila and play their songs to awaiting fans. Whether they have come before or are new to the Philippines, here are some of the bands/musicians who you may still be able to quickly save up and buy tickets for in order to see them live this July.
Jesse McCartney is set to make his debut Manila concert this coming July 13th at the New Frontier Theater! The American singer-songwriter plus actor is best known musically for his very first single “Beautiful Soul” released back in 2004 and which was also the title of his solo debut album released that very same year. Currently, the said album has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. He is also known for co-writing Leon Lewis’ hit “Bleeding Love” back in 2007 as well as having written songs for Vanessa Hudgens and Toni Braxton.
His most recent single released is entitled “Wasted” and has reached #5 on the iTunes US Pop chart as well as #32 on Apple Music. Its music video was released just this year and has already accumulated more than a million views.
With acting, he is well known for being the voice actor to the characters of Roxas and Ventus in the video game series “Kingdom Hearts” as well as voicing Theodore in the “Alvin and the Chipmunks” movie franchise. For three years, he was also part of the cast of popular daytime soap opera “All My Children” in which he garnered both Young Artist Award and Daytime Emmy Award nominations for his role as Adam Chandler Jr.
American indie band LANY is next in line on the upcoming artists set to visit Manila this July! The trio consisting of Paul Jason Klein, Charles Leslie “Les” Priest and Jake Clifford Goss have allotted three performance dates for their Filipino fans as part of their “LANY Malibu Nights World Tour” this 2019 to promote their second full-length album “Malibu Nights”. Its lead single “Thru These Tears” peaked at #32 at Billboard’s U.S. Alternative Songs Chart while the entire album peaked at #36 at the Billboard 200.
The band rose to popularity especially after the release of their self-titled debut album back in 2017 that included the singles “ILYSB” and “Super Far” co-written by Oskar Engstrom and Ryan Tedder respectively.
Initially being a one-day concert, due to a high demand of tickets, their Manila visit was extended first for one more additional day before finally adding yet another date that has the band now set to perform on July 23rd-25th at the Mall of Asia Arena. They first came to Manila as part of the line-up for the Wanderland music festival back in 2017 before returning later in that very same year for a three-day mall concert tour at Ayala Malls. Their most recent visit was just last year where they performed for two days at the Araneta Coliseum as part of their self-titled 2018 tour.
Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar, whose real name is Ashton Simmonds, is set to make a full comeback this July 23rd at the New Front Theater! Just like with LANY, he also first came to the country after being part of the line-up for musical festival Wanderland back in 2017.
He rose to popularity after the consecutive release of his EPs entitled “Praise Break” (2014) and “Pilgrim’s Paradise” (2015). Although it was with his subsequent releases of the 2016 single “Get You” followed by his 2017 full-length album “Freudian” that the singer gained widespread recognition all over the world as well as earning his first two Grammy nominations. He finally bagged a Grammy (Best R&B Performance) just this year for the song “Best Part” which he collaborated with American singer H.E.R.
American singer-songwriter Andrew Bazzi or simply known as Bazzi is coming to Manila this July 26th! He gained fame with his current highest charting single “Mine” which has already been certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America among the other certifications the single has garnered after its release in 2017. His other well-known hits include “Beautiful” (which was re-released in 2018 to feature Camila Cabello; both the original and re-release have achieved RIAA platinum certification) and “Paradise”. He was also nominated for Top New Artist in this year’s Billboard Music Awards.
He is set to perform his debut Manila concert at the Island at The Palace in Taguig.
Irish pop group Westlife is returning again to Manila this time for their “The Twenty Tour” in celebration of their 20th anniversary as well as having reformed last year after their initial split back in 2012. The group was formed back in 1998, was originally signed to Simon Cowell and is still currently managed by Louis Walsh. The consecutive release of their hit albums and singles beginning from 1999 has established the Irish act as one of the best-selling musicians in history and their milestones include having sold over 40 million studio albums and 55 million records worldwide (with 14 #1 singles in the United Kingdom alone) as well as having past a billion views and past 550 million streams on their YouTube and Spotify page respectively. They have also been awarded with a World Music Award and Brit Awards just to name a few.
The band presently consisting of Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Mark Feehily and Kian Egan are performing from July 29th-30th at the Araneta Coliseum. Supposedly a one-day concert, a second date was added due to very high demands from their Filipino fans. Their set-list will include most of their beloved #1 hits like “Uptown Girl”, “When You’re Looking Like That” and “World of Our Own” plus their most recent single in the past 8 years “Hello My Love” (written and produced by Ed Sheeran and Steve Mac).
A new album is set to be released this September or October.
And fyi, although tickets are supposedly sold out, upon checking the website of Ticketnet there still seem to be a few tickets (albeit the higher priced ones) left available for both dates.
Last but not the least, Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer is set to return this very month to Manila before joining on the North American leg of The Chainsmokers’ “World War Joy Tour” which begins in September. The two groups recently collaborated on the single “Who Do You Love” which peaked at #52 in Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and whose music video currently has over 32 million views on YouTube.
Their most recent single released just last May is titled “Easier” and is set to be the lead single for their upcoming fourth studio album.
No other official details regarding their visit have yet been announced.
