The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will be relaunching an expanded anti-criminality and social outreach program dubbed “Oplan Kalinaw II” this month, an official said Wednesday.

Maj. Maria Teresita Gaspan, DCPO spokesperson, said the program’s revival will include a widened integration of outreach programs such as medical missions and pro bono legal services, among others.

Kalinaw ll encapsulates the best security practices while providing free medical services and improving police-community relations in the city, she said.

Oplan Kalinaw was first launched in September 2018 as a response to insurgency threats that included the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria-backed militants in some regions in Mindanao.

However, Gaspan said the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic halted the implementation of the program.

“DCPO is ready to deliver our services, especially to the marginalized areas along with our local government, local and national agencies, as well as civil society organizations and non-government organizations,” she said.

The City Health Office, Local Civil Registry, City Agriculturist’s Office, National Bureau of Investigation, Regional Medical Unit of the Police Regional Office 11, and Philippine Army, among other agencies, will provide medical, legal and social services under the program.

“Partner agencies will make sure that the Oplan Kalinaw will achieve its goal of fostering a stronger police-community relationship and curbing the city’s rising crime rate by conducting a proactive crime prevention education campaign,” the DCPO spokesperson said.

Other agencies, such as those specializing in social welfare, will also be launching efforts to address poverty-driven crimes, she added. (PNA)
