Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla assured the public that there is no fuel supply constraint after some power generating plants servicing the Luzon Grid went on simultaneous forced outages this morning.

“We assure the public that the DoE is verifying the cause of the forced outages this morning as there appears to be no fuel supply constraints. A team from the DOE will conduct actual physical spot checks and validate the condition of the transmission lines and the affected power plants,” the Secretary said.

Luzon Grid is on red alert for interval hours from 1:00 – 6:00 PM today and on the yellow alert status on interval hours from 10 AM – 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM tonight, according to the grid operator.

When reserves fall below ideal levels, a yellow alert is placed over the grid. When supply-demand balance worsens, a red alert, which points to severe power deficiency that may lead to rotating power interruptions, is declared.

Meanwhile, DoE was informed by the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) that it has advised its Interruptible Load Program (ILP) participants of possible manual load dropping. The ILP participants may run their facilities to allow more grid capacity to serve other customers.
