Fifty-seven families affected by flashflood in Barangay Tigbalua I of Sibalom town were provided Sunday with relief goods from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 Office.

“The 57 family food packs had a total cost of PHP27,588 and good for three days for each family with five members,” said DSWD Antique Pantawid Provincial Link Jeffrey Gabucay, who led the distribution, in an interview on Monday.

At least 285 persons received the relief packs, consisting of rice, noodles, canned goods, hygiene kits including soap, sanitary napkins, and other toiletries.

So far, Gabucay said only Sibalom reported to have affected families due to the flashflood.

Based on the report of Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the flashflood was due to the continuous heavy rains caused by the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone and a localized thunderstorm that affected the families residing near the creek and irrigation area.

They were evacuated to the Barangay Health Center and at the Tigbalua I Elementary School, and were able to return to their homes on Monday afternoon when the water already subsided.

The Sibalom MDRRMO is now clearing the debris that accumulated on the two bridges in the barangay while damage to properties are still being assessed. (PNA)
