The incoming administration here said there will be no tax increase for the business sector which is still recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic.

During a press conference at a mall here on Sunday, Mayor-elect Rolando Uy asked the help of the city council to pass an ordinance supporting his plans that include providing incentives for new investors and discounts for business owners who would pay their real property and business taxes in advance.

Uy said his programs can boost the economy, generate jobs, and encourage business owners to settle their obligations.

He would also devise a condonation plan for delinquent taxpayers in public markets so they can be eligible for new contracts.

For the transportation sector, Uy would ask for reduction in fines to help drivers and operators cope with their daily needs.

“I will ask the city council and I hope they will help and allow me to help our people. I will also assure you that the government is always open to listen and to help,” Uy said at the media briefing that followed their inauguration.

Reelected Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya of the Second District said he sees no opposition to Uy’s economic recovery plans.

“I think there will be no opposition because it is for the people,” Nacaya said.

Councilor-elect Christian Rustico Achas assured assistance for the business community, transportation sector, persons with disabilities, and other social services. (PNA)
