Twenty-two cooperatives across three areas in the Davao Region are set to receive PHP70 million worth of brand-new hauling trucks this week, the Department of Agriculture Regional Office (DA-11) announced Thursday.

The initiative is part of the DA’s Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program, aimed at accelerating hog repopulation and revitalizing the swine industry following the impact of African swine fever (ASF).

Marie Ann Constantino, DA-11 technical director for operations, said the bio-secured hauling trucks will enhance efficiency, ensure timely delivery, and improve storage and handling of agricultural products.

“These trucks will make operations more cost-effective and support the recovery of our swine industry,” Constantino said in a statement.

This week, eight trucks will be distributed to cooperatives in Davao del Sur, while seven each will go to Davao Occidental and Davao City.

The trucks are equipped with specialized features, including a water tank, water pump, sewage tank outlet for waste disposal, pig guards for livestock protection, and dash cams for real-time video recording during operation.

In addition to the truck distribution, the DA-11 Regulatory Division conducted an orientation on the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) and the application process for Animal Carrier Permits. The session aimed to promote proper animal care, prevent abuse, and ensure suitable housing, nutrition, and behavioral conditions for livestock.

The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and revitalizing the agricultural sector in the region. (PNA)
