The United Kingdom has recently added the Philippines and three other countries from their travel “red list” to reduce the risk of new coronavirus variants entering the UK.

As a temporary measure, the countries to be banned were among the Philippines, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Kenya which are included on UK’s red list.

According to the UK’s website, the announcement will take effect at 11:00 a.m. Philippine time (4:00 UK time) starting on April 9, 2021.

Following the statement of the British Ambassador to the Philippines, Daniel Pruce clarifies to Filipinos and other travelers what ‘UK Red List’ means.

He said, “You cannot enter the UK from the Philippines unless you are a British or Irish national, or if you are a third country national (including Filipino) who has residence rights in the UK,” a video posted on Twitter.

Pruce added that the British Embassy is waiting for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on whether to adopt the same measure as confirmation hasn’t been disclosed.

The British Embassy in Manila also noted that “You cannot enter the UK from the Philippines unless you are a British or Irish national, or if you are a third country national (including Filipino) who has residence rights in the UK,” posted on Facebook.

“If you are still eligible to enter then you will now be required, in England, to undergo hotel quarantine for 10 days after your arrival, if you have departed from or transited through the Philippines in the preceding 10 days. You will need to cover the cost of this from your own expense,” it added.

“These are temporary measures that will be kept under review and will only be maintained in place while the level of risk justifies them,” Pruce said.

As of this writing, the Philippines on Sunday have an overall tally of 795,051 Covid-19 cases with 135,526 active cases, 646,100 recoveries, and 13,425 deaths.
