You did it. You diligently saved a portion of your allowance every week, asked your parents to support you in getting tickets, and spent the night outside a mall just so you could get tickets early in the morning, or hoped for the best as you logged onto the concert website at 12 PM. The ticket has been paid for, and all you need to do now is wait. Congrats!

Now comes the not-so-fun part: waiting. There are a lot of things you could do to get even more excited for the day to come, and one thing that you often see people do is prepare their concert outfit. If you’ve ever seen pictures and clips of concerts online, you may have noticed fans (and even celebrities) dressing up in costumes that reference the artist. It’s often so exciting to watch these videos and see how the fans can get so creative in thinking of ideas.

If you’re still on the fence about making a concert outfit, here are five reasons why you definitely should:

You’re up for a creative challenge

This will definitely pique the interest of those of you who are more creatively inclined. A lot of fans often recreate iconic outfits from the artist’s music videos, performances, and even the concert itself, sometimes with their own twist.

These artists usually have big budgets and luxury brands help create the costumes for their performances, so it’s definitely something you cannot simply buy off the rack from a store. The fun is in trying to find a cheap alternative that creates the intended effect, and fashionista or not, it will still be a great time trying to get as accurate as possible to the original outfit.

You want to honor a favorite song or album about them

Fans often spend thousands of pesos on their favorite artists because they mean so much to us. Whether it’s because their music helped you through a difficult time or inspired you to chase their dreams, many people owe quite a lot to artists by inspiring them through their art.

Especially if you have a specific song or album that you consistently come back to and rank as your top 1 for that artist, maybe you would want to take the opportunity to share to the world one of your favorite art pieces by your favorite artist through fashion as another form of fashion.

You want to be fashionable for the day

This is naturally apparent about the practice, but is it really a crime to dress and style well for something you have spent time and money to attend? You would also want to make sure to take a lot of pictures that you would want to share with friends and family, and it’s a great idea to make sure that you look your best during this important and fun time.

You want to make connections with new people

You’re at the concert because you like the artist enough to spend time and money to be there, and most likely, other people are also there for the same reasons. What better way to make that apparent than by dressing the part? You might have strangers come up to you to compliment your handiwork on your outfit, and if your outfit is that amazing, it’s a great conversation starter. Who knows, by the end of the night, you might walk away as a fulfilled fan with brand-new mutual friends on social media.

You want to have fun

Because, at a concert, isn’t that what we’re supposed to do? Singing songs, being amazed with our friends, dancing until you get tired—you’re at a concert because you want to enjoy yourself. And maybe you’re the type of person who always likes to dress up. Or maybe you’re the type of person who wants to feel the moment more. There’s no harm in preparing an outfit, so long as it doesn’t disturb the people around you, and that you’ll feel like you have more fun wearing it.

However, don’t feel pressured to follow through with this. This list highlights many ways in which fans often celebrate the artists and people they adore, but it’s not a necessity for every concert. There are artists who don’t really have that culture of dressing up, and you’re going to have a perfectly enjoyable time regardless. The point is to make sure that you make the most of a once-in-a-lifetime experience, depending on how “you” want to have fun.
