More taxpayers are now using the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) e-services as e-payment collections reached more than PHP2 trillion last year.

Data released by the BIR during the 2025 National Tax Campaign Kick-off at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City on Tuesday showed that e-payment collections reached PHP2.06 trillion from January to October last year.

The amount accounts for about 85 percent of the total collection during the period.

“Ang digital transformation ng BIR ay nagiging successful, dahil nakikita natin na parami ng parami talaga gumagamit ng mga e-services natin at nagbabayad, especially nitong online payments (The BIR’s digital transformation is becoming successful because we see that more and more people are actually using our e-services, especially online payments),” BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. said.

National tax campaign

Lumagui, meanwhile, said the 2025 National Tax Campaign underscores the crucial role of taxpayers in funding the country’s economic recovery and development through the timely and correct payment of taxes.

“Taxes -often seen as a burden or a necessity- are in fact the lifeblood of our society. They fund our schools where our children learn, they support our healthcare system where our loved ones are cared for, they maintain our roads and infrastructure that we rely on each and every day,” Lumagui said.

“Taxes are not just numbers on a balance sheet; they are investments in our shared future, in the kind of world we want to pass on to the next generation.”

Lumagui cited the need for transparency and accountability in the country’s tax system.

“It means that everyone, regardless of their status or background, should contribute their fair share to the nation’s development. By doing so, we ensure that the burden is distributed equitably and that no one is left behind,” he said.

“As we launch this tax campaign, let us pledge to be conscientious taxpayers, to uphold the values of integrity and accountability, and to work together towards a more just and prosperous society. Let us remember that our contributions, no matter how big or small, make a difference in shaping the future of our nation.” (PNA)
