The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) is prioritizing the resolution of an estimated PHP337 million worth of materials and Non-Revenue Water (NRW) projects to improve the operations of the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD).

During the Cagayan de Oro Press Club’s “Meet the Press” program Wednesday, Interim Manager Fermin Jarales outlined LWUA’s nine-point action plan for COWD.

The plan includes auditing PHP153 million worth of materials for water maintenance and operation through a Materials Utilization Report, with planning set for January to April 2025 and implementation from May to December 2025.

“LWUA intervened to eliminate the threat of water shortages. We aim to ensure uninterrupted water supply in Cagayan de Oro,” Jarales said.

Additionally, PHP225 million has been allocated for the NRW Program, which will feature a system-wide management strategy.

Planning for the program is expected by March 2025, with implementation details to follow.

Jarales emphasized that the nine-point plan focuses on past-due account collection, NRW reduction, and cost-cutting measures, aligning with a five-year development plan.

Since LWUA assumed control of COWD in May 2024, PHP9.78 million has been recovered from delinquent accounts. (PNA)
