The city government on Monday handed over 44 motorcycle units to the local police and military forces to enhance their capabilities in maintaining peace and order.

All but two of 44 new motorcycles are for the Zamboanga City Police Office, while the Marine Battalion Landing Team-1 and Task Force Zamboanga received one unit each.

Mayor John Dalipe said the acquisition of the 44 motorcycles amounted to PHP10.47 million, with each unit costing PHP238,000. The funding was sourced from the capital outlay of the city’s 2025 executive budget.

“My advice to our security personnel is to take good care of these motorcycles to ensure their long-term usability,” Dalipe said.

He assured that the city government would shoulder the expenses for gasoline and maintenance of the motorcycles.

Each motorcycle is equipped with specialized accessories designed for law enforcement and security operations, including sirens, crash guards, blinkers, new batteries and helmets.

Monday’s turnover marks the second batch of motorcycles provided by the city government to the local police. The first batch consisted of 20 units were turned over on Nov. 30, 2024. (PNA)
