To address the effects of severe flooding caused by recent typhoons and the southwest monsoon, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 4-A (Calabarzon) has allocated PHP20.3 million under its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program to 400 residents in Cainta, Rizal.

The funding will expedite the implementation of the Imelda Avenue Drainage Cleanup Project.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, DOLE said the 400 residents will be engaged for 90 days starting Wednesday to undertake a large-scale drainage cleanup. Their work will focus on the Imelda Avenue area and its flood-prone subdivisions.

The beneficiaries will receive PHP560 per day for their work, which will include dredging canals, clearing debris, and uncovering condemned drainage lines that require replacement or repair.

The deployment will cover 12 severely affected subdivisions: Vista Verde, Village East, Greenpark, Filinvest, Karangalan, Cypress, Country Homes, Kasibulan, Dacon Homes, Gruar, CVS, Villa Olympia, Serra Monte, Eastville, and Katarungan.

Homeowners Associations (HOAs) will oversee work progress, submit weekly reports to the municipal government and ensure the completion of tasks in assigned streets within agreed timelines, DOLE said.

According to Mayor Johnielle Keith Nieto, the municipal government will supply all necessary tools and materials for the cleanup. Beneficiaries who perform well and deliver consistent output may have the opportunity to be retained for future maintenance work. (PNA)
