ABS-CBN TVplus Go, the dongle that turns Android smartphones into “handheld TV” sets enabling Filipinos to watch TV shows during their daily commute, has been recognized as the “Tech Toy of the Year” award at the 5th YugaTech Choice Awards.
The annual event, organized by the influential technology blog site Yugatech, gives recognition to products that benefit Filipino consumers.
ABS-CBN TVplus Go acts as a digital TV broadcast receiver and does not require mobile data. It was launched in June 2019 by ABS-CBN, the first television network in the country to shift to digital TV in line with government’s mandate broadcasters to shift from analog by 2023.
Through TVplus Go, commuters are able to watch the wide selection of shows on ABS-CBN, ABS-CBN S+A, Myx, YeY, Knowledge Channel, and O Shopping. It also provides users with the latest news on DZMM TeleRadyo, as well as movies on CineMo, Asianovela Channel, Jeepney TV, and Movie Central.
YugaTech.com is the largest and longest running technology site in the Philippines and covers news on “consumer electronics, tech news, social media, automotive, tech policy and provides in-depth reviews of the most popular devices released in the market with special focus on the Philippine landscape.”
Apart from giving Filipinos affordable access to entertainment on-the-go, TVplus Go also supports the government’s order for TV networks shift to digital.
Dexter Chan, ABS-CBN TVplus Go Product Marketing head, A.R. Polinar, Digital Terrestrial Television Integrated Marketing Communications head, Shiena Marie Pantinos, ABS-CBN TVplus Go Product Manager, and Angelica Prisca Agustin, ABS-CBN TVplus Go Product Manager, received the award.
ABS-CBN TVplus Go works in areas where digital TV signal is available, including Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Batangas, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Baguio City, Cavite, Laguna, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Metro Cebu, Cagayan de Oro City, and Davao City. It is available for only P799 and best for outdoor use.
