The kickoff of the 2025 “Brigada Eskwela” in Antique gathered the commitment of stakeholders for over 400 armchairs, which are most needed by schools in the province for Academic Year 2025-2026.

The Department of Education-School Division (DepEd-SDO) of Antique has been calling for armchair donors through its Building Achievement Nurturing Greatness for Knowledge and Opportunities project. It needs around 500 this school year.

Nine multipurpose cooperatives and one hotel pledged over 400 armchairs, a teacher’s table and other forms of support for schools under SDO Antique. The San Jose multipurpose held a ceremonial turnover of 100 armchairs.

SDO Antique superintendent Dr. Nicasio Frio Jr., during the provincial kickoff of “Brigada Eskwela” at Moscoso-Rios National High School in Hamtic town on Monday, said that they are appealing not only for the “bayanihan” (cooperation) spirit of the Antiqueños during the weeklong activity for the cleanliness of the school premises but also support for the campaign on literacy tools of the learners.

“The Brigada Eskwela is more than the cleanliness of the schools. Let it be a movement for literacy, equity in education that every child has the tool to learn how to read,” he said in his message.

Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda, in his virtual message, assured the DepEd of continuing support, together with the office of his sister, Senator Loren Legarda.

Rep. Legarda said they are working out to provide financial assistance to underprivileged senior high school students because he believes that financial hardship should not be a hindrance to education.

“In 2023, a free Wi-Fi connection was provided to far-flung barangays that benefited teachers and students as their tool in the digital divide,” he said.

Julius Pierre Pacificador, vice president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in Antique, said he would pass a resolution for the local government of Hamtic to allocate funds for the needed armchairs and other support for the Moscoso-Rios National High School and other public schools within their municipality.
