At least 9,537 food packs are being readied for distribution to residents badly affected by Tropical Depression Lannie in Eastern Visayas.

Of the number, some 4,417 packs are stored at the Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Resource Operations Section warehouse in Palo, Leyte. Other food packs are prepositioned in strategic locations in the region.

“We have been coordinating with the municipal disaster risk reduction and management offices and municipal social welfare and development offices in local governments to get updates on the typhoon impact,” the DSWD Eastern Visayas regional office said in a statement Tuesday.

Each food pack consists of rice, canned goods and coffee, packed in a small box for one family.

The food packs have been prepositioned in warehouses in Catarman, Northern Samar; Allen, Northern Samar, Can-avid, Eastern Samar; Catbalogan City, Samar; Naval, Biliran; and Maasin City, Southern Leyte.

After making its first two landfalls in Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands early Monday, Lannie made its third landfall in Liloan, Southern Leyte. Several areas in Eastern Visayas were placed under tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1.

The DSWD in Eastern Visayas has prepositioned food packs even with the ongoing distribution to 19,507 families in the region badly affected by Typhoon Jolina that crossed the region in early September.

As of September 28, at least 16,607 family food packs have been delivered in Eastern Samar, Samar and Leyte provinces. (PNA)
