A virtual competition did not hinder the Taekwondo athletes from the Negros Taekwondo Union – Tigers New Gen in bringing home a total of 16 medals in the 2021 Smart/MVP Sports Foundation Global Online Taekwondo Championships.

Spearheaded by the Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA), the Negrenses taekwondo jins swept all major awards and bagged five gold, five silver, and six bronze medals in the said online championship for speed kicking.

In a Facebook post by the NTU Tigers New Gen, they congratulated all the athletes who poured their time and effort into making the victory possible. “Thank you to our very supportive parents and hardworking tigers!!! This victory is for all of us! For family, God and country! Fighting!” the organization said.

Among the 16 winners, five of them clinched the gold medal which comprises Julio Miguel Zapata, a junior men flyweight black belter, and Leigh Andee Rodriguez, a junior female flyweight black belter.

Blue belt, Gadiel Estor also bagged a gold medal for the team in the cadet male light middle-heavyweight category while black belter, Christophe Therence Avanceña dominated the children male light-welterweight category.

Shining with silver medals were Arthur Diaz in junior male fin-flyweight black, Jerik Joseph in cadet male lightweight black, and Manuel Eduardo III Machado in cadet male fly-featherweight black. Moreover, junior female blue, Ianne Rose Treyes, and children light-middleweight brown, Prince Fiel delas Alas also were silver medalists.

Furthermore, NTU also bagged a total of six bronze medals which was successfully won by Cipriano IV Lumanog in cadet male fin weight brown, Paulo Izac Lopez in children male-finweight brown, Julian Ignatius Sabay in children male featherweight brown, and osh Nathaniel Montesino in children male light middle brown.

Meanwhile, after dominating the Online Taekwondo Championships, NTU-Tigers New Gen did not waver and competed in the recently concluded Kim Un-Yong International Taekwondo Championships in which they won four Gold and one Silver medal.

NTU-Tigers New Gen is a Bacolod-based taekwondo union whose purpose is to mold and hone young taekwondo aspirants to be the best athletes to compete inside and outside the country.

The taekwondo union also offers virtual classes for young athletes who wish to be trained amid challenging times.
