At least 16 more police officers have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), pushing the tally of Covid-19 recoveries in the Philippine National Police (PNP) to 8,738 as of Monday night.

Based on the latest data from the PNP Administrative Support for Covid-19 Task Force, recoveries comprise 95.9 percent of a total of 9,111 Covid-19 cases in the police force.

Meanwhile, the PNP’s Covid-19 death toll has risen to 28 after a 41-year-old non-commissioned police officer from the Cauayan City, Isabela police station died of the disease on Monday morning.

PNP deputy chief for administration, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, reported that the PNP currently has 344 active cases – 27 from the national headquarters, 164 from national support units (NSUs), and 153 from police regional offices (PROs).

Eleazar said 16 patients and 328 patients were recuperating in hospitals and quarantine facilities, respectively.

As of Monday, a total of 79,046 have been tested or 36 percent of a total of 221,000 PNP members, Eleazar said.

To date, 2,267 or 71.63 percent of 3,165 police officers in the national headquarters have been given Covid-19 tests, along with 25,623 or 73.63 percent of 34,800 police officers assigned in NSUs and 51,156 or 28.17 percent of 181,608 police officers in PROs.

About 38,000 tests have been conducted for cops in the National Capital Region. (PNA)
