A total of PHP2.2 million in emergency cash assistance was released to the 113 families in three barangays here whose houses were gutted by fire, the Department of Social Welfare and Development regional office in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) said on Wednesday.
Shalaine Marie Lucero, DSWD-7 regional director, said 55 households from Barangay Mambaling, 48 from Sapangdaku, and 10 from Guadalupe benefited from the assistance following the resolutions passed by their respective village councils declaring fire-hit areas under state of calamity.
Ninety-five households whose houses were totally damaged received PHP20,212 each, and 18 whose houses were declared partially damaged received PHP10,106 each.
“This cash assistance would augment the basic needs of the family, including medicine, clothing, hospitalization, transportation, educational support, and food items not included in the DSWD family food pack,” Lucero told the Philippine News Agency.
The cash aid was on top of the PHP2 million in cash assistance through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program and PHP881,000 worth of food and non-food items (FNFIs) provided to the affected families.
The Cebu City government also provided PHP5.6 million worth of FNFIs and shelter assistance to the fire victims.
“ECT is an adaptive strategy for bridging the gap between immediate disaster relief, humanitarian response, and early recovery support in disasters and emergencies,” the social welfare official said. (PNA)
