All of the 115,000 troops of the Philippine Army (PA) will help the Philippine National Police (PNP) in securing the upcoming midterm elections.

“The (entire) 115,000. All of us will be committed because we want this democratic exercise successful. We might not be in the front lines, we might be at the back, collecting information, sharing this information to concerned agencies for their appropriate action. But the whole Army is committed to make this election a success,” PA commander Lt. Gen. Roy Galido said in a media briefing late Monday when asked how many soldiers would be mobilized to help secure the polls.

He also said Army commanders are working with the PNP in determining “critical areas” that had been earlier identified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“Our role right now in the Army is to prepare the troops, to prepare our units to be able to support the PNP and the Comelec in this endeavor,” Galido said.

The PA chief added that troop deployment is going on “smoothly” ahead of the elections. (PNA)
