The City Veterinary Office (CVO) has vaccinated some 14,000 dogs for rabies here.

In an interview on Thursday, city veterinarian Dr. Michael Maramba said they almost reached February to July this year the total number of vaccinated dogs last year in their rabies vaccination drive.

He said the CVO registers 98-percent accomplishment with only two out of the 31 barangays have not requested a schedule of rabies immunization.

“These are Barangay Bacayao Norte and Barangay 2 & 3. The formal request is protocol,” he said.

He added 90 percent of the vaccine they administered were purchased by the city government.

Maramba said they are doubling their efforts as the reported rabies-positive cases in the past four years have been alarming.

There were five positive cases both in 2018 and 2019, and six cases in 2020.

CVO recorded only one case this year, with the dog coming from outside the city.

Cristina Nevado, a pet owner, thanked the CVO for its efforts.

“They went to our barangay and immunized our pet dogs. It makes us feel safe as owners and also for the safety of the community,” she said in a separate interview. (PNA)
