A total of 150 coffee farmers from three associations in Malita, Davao Occidental have received more than PHP1.5 million in assistance under the government’s climate and disaster resilience initiative, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD‑11) said on Thursday.
In an online post, the DSWD-11 said each beneficiary received PHP10,200 under Project Local Adaptation to Water Access (LAWA) and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished (BINHI) during a payout held on Sept. 21–22, covering 20 days of community-based work.
The farmers participated in activities supporting coffee planting and tilapia production, including establishing and maintaining tilapia ponds and planting more than 64,000 coffee seedlings in Sitio Kalamagan (Datu Danwata), Sitio Guisok (Demoloc), and Sitio Bolo Bolo (Little Baguio).
The partner‑beneficiaries are members of the Datu Danwata Tagakaulo Farmers Association, Mag‑Uumang Adik sa Kape Association, and Little Baguio Highland Coffee Growers Association.
“The 20‑day engagement provided farmers with additional income while enabling them to contribute to productive community resources that support food production and livelihood activities beyond the payout,” DSWD-11 said.
Project LAWA at BINHI is implemented through the DSWD Risk Resiliency Program–Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP CCAM), integrating climate adaptation measures with livelihood and food security interventions to enhance communities’ resilience and productive capacity. (PNA)
