Two road network projects worth almost PHP60 million are expected to steer the local economy of Cebu’s “hablon” fabric capital of Argao, some 70 kilometers south of here, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said on Wednesday.

Garcia was referring to the PHP49.2 million road section project that will connect the villages of Canbanua, Jomgao, and Panadtaran, and the port road section traversing beside the Argao municipal hall with a total cost of PHP8.5 million. Garcia led the inauguration of the road projects on Tuesday.

The road network in Canbanua, Jomgao, and Panadtaran has more than 4 kilometers in length, a little over 6 meters wide, and 9-inch concrete cement thickness, following the gold standard of roads funded by the provincial government.

The network road could be an alternate route for motorists driving to the national highway, said Cebu’s sixth district Board Member Stanley Caminero.

This would ease vehicular traffic along Argao’s national highway, he added.

The Argao Port 484-meter-long road project traversing Barangay Poblacion, on the other hand, will be the convenient passage of passengers and cargo going to and from the port that connects Argao to Bohol, said Garcia.

This, she added, will boost the local economy in the town.

“The road network will facilitate the convenient passage of passengers and cargo going to and from the port which connects Argao to Bohol, helping boost local economy in Argao,” she said.

Apart from hablon fabric made of a traditional weaving process that makes use of handloom, Argao is also known for making torta, a spongy and sweet pastry prepared in a traditional way of cooking using locally-sourced special ingredients. (PNA)
