A total of 361 families affected by Typhoon Kristine in Surigao City in October received financial assistance under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program on Thursday.

“Over PHP1 million in assistance was released during the payouts, with each family receiving PHP3,000 to meet their immediate needs as they continue to recover from the effects of the recent typhoon,” the Surigao City Public Information Office (PIO) said in a statement Friday.

Families from 20 villages in the city gathered in Barangay Washington for the payout activity

Arlyn, 24, a mother of two from Barangay Ipil, recalled the fear Typhoon Kristine brought early on Oct. 22, as her house is situated near the coastline.

“Our house incurred partial damage and we were forced to evacuate to the barangay’s gymnasium for safety,” she said in a phone interview Friday.

Arlyn said the PHP3,000 assistance is enough to purchase rice, food and vitamins for her children.

“The AICS program provides immediate aid to individuals and families in crisis, including financial, medical, and burial assistance, serving as a lifeline during challenging times,” the PIO said.

The office also encouraged other residents needing similar support to visit the City Social Welfare and Development Office to access the AICS program. (PNA)
