A total of 4,399 low-income earners and flood victims in two villages here received cash assistance under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program on Saturday.

The beneficiaries – 1,531 from Barangay Lasang and 2,868 from Barangay Bunawan – consisting of flood victims, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, and marginalized workers, received PHP2,000 each.

Senator Christopher Lawrence Go witnessed the distribution, and his office also gave out bicycles, volleyballs and basketballs, crutches, shoes, mobile phones, T-shirts, food and grocery packs, vitamins and face masks to the beneficiaries.

“Make use of the amount prudently. We hope that you will buy food for your family,” he said.

He also urged the beneficiaries to avail of the services of the five Malasakit Centers in the Davao Region.

The senator also turned over a PHP5-million patient transport and multi-purpose vehicle to Barangay Lasang village chief Allan Simo-ag at the Gabriel Taborin College of Davao Foundation, Inc.

Go likewise pldged to support the development initiatives of the barangay to further help the residents, especially on health issues.

“(On) behalf of the people of Lasang, we thank Senator Go for the vehicle. This is very helpful for all in emergency cases since we are the last barangay in the city,” Simo-ag said. (PNA)
