Some 41 Filipino priests are now in Rome to pursue further studies.

Pontificio Collegio Filippino (PCF) Rector Fr. Ramon Gregory Gaston said the number includes 16 priests who are newcomers.

“After two to four years of ongoing formation and specialized studies, they return to their home dioceses to help in seminaries, parishes and other diocesan ministries,” he said in an article posted on the Catholic Bishops’ of the Conference (CBCP) news website Wednesday.

Aside from the Filipinos, there are also 10 priests of different nationalities who are currently residing at the PCF.

Established in 1961, the Collegio serves as the official residence of Filipino diocesan priests studying in different universities in Rome.

It has also been serving as the de facto Filipino Chaplaincy, with one office coordinating several Filipinos working in Rome.

Gaston thanked those who continue to support scholarships, operations, programs and other needs of the PCF.

The Collegio accepts financial donations from those who wish to support its ministry.

Meanwhile, the Filipino priests attended a Mass at the crypt of St. Peter’s Basilica on Saturday as they start their studies in Rome.

The liturgy was led by Fr. Andrew Reception, spiritual director of the PCF, with Philippine ambassador to the Holy See Lyla Grace Macahilig, in attendance. (PNA)
