The provincial police office in Davao del Sur has officially launched the “Kapwa ko, Sagot ko” program as its contribution to the efforts of the government in alleviating the plight of the people who are severely affected by the ongoing enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Col. Alberto Lupaz, Davao del Sur Police director, in a statement on Saturday said under the program, policemen will select one or two families in their respective localities that are considered as among the “poorest of the poor” and help them by providing them with food and other basic needs until the ECQ is lifted.

“This is our own way of voluntarily helping those who are in dire need at this point that the country is facing a crisis due to the threat brought by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19),” he said.

Lupaz said through the “Kapwa ko, Sagot Ko” program, the police could let the people know that they are not alone and that the police are there not only to provide security but also food to those who are in need, in consonance with the core values of the Philippine National Police (PNP) which are “Makatao, Makabayan, Maka-Diyos, at Maka-kalikasan (selfless love and service for people, patriotism, love of God, and love for the environment)”.

He also extended the challenge to those who have more in life to join the police force in helping people in need in this time of crisis.

“We can definitely beat Covid-19 through unity and cooperation,” Lupaz said. (PNA)
