Traffic has long been a problem for traveling Filipinos. When getting from point A to point B, you cannot simply say that it will take you a few minutes, even if it is close-by. You have to take into account the traffic, the time of day, and if its a weekday or a weekend. During the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), the roads were mostly clear with only essential workers and frontliners on the road.

Now that the Metro Manila is under General Community Quarantine (GCQ), more and more citizens are traveling out of their houses.

The number coding scheme was previously lifted on March 13 so essential workers can travel with ease to and from work.

On June 8, a modified number coding scheme was implemented by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA). The modified scheme entails that vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1-2, cannot be driven on Mondays.

Upon its effectivity, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 3-4 cannot be driven on Tuesdays, 5-6 on Wednesday, 7-8 on Thursdays, and 9-0 on Fridays.

In addition, MMDA released two exemptions to this policy: 1.) those driven by health workers; and/or 2) those with two or more passengers including the driver, provided that social distancing and wearing of face masks is observed”.

“MMDA’s Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program or number coding scheme is still suspended on Monday, June 8, until further notice due to limited operations of public transportation in Metro Manila,” said their official statement.”The number coding suspension is for public mobility to continue and assist the motorists, particularly those reporting for work.”
