The Philippine Statistics Authority in Region 9 (PSA-9) rolled out Monday the first step for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) registration in the region.
PSA-9 chief statistical specialist Condrad Sontillano said the PhilSys registration involves three steps: registration, gathering and capturing of biometrics, and the issuance of PhilSys number and Identification Cards.
Under the first step, Sontillano said 144 data collectors will gather demographic information such as name, sex, date, and place of birth, blood type, and address.
The second step entails iris scan, photograph, and the capturing of fingerprints, while the third step involves the issuance of the identification cards with a corresponding serial number.
Sontillano said the government will prioritize barangays with the most reported number of low-income families and those without internet access.
Meanwhile, Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar became the first registrant of the PSA’s Step 1 registration for the PhilSys in this city.
Salazar called on the public to cooperate with the implementation of the PhilSys, which is mandated under Republic Act 11055 that seeks to establish a single national identification system to provide a valid proof of identity for Filipino Citizens.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed R.A. 11055 into law on August 6, 2018. (PNA)
