Some 331 displaced workers here have benefited from the emergency employment under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Dagupan Public Employment Service Office manager Joy Siapno said the displaced workers were from the different barangays in the city.
“Sila ay nakatanggap ng PHP3,400 para sa sampung araw na trabaho at PHP5,440 naman para sa 16 na araw. (They have received PHP3,400 for 10-day work and PHP5,440 for those who have worked for 16 days),” she said in an interview on Tuesday.
In his speech during the payout and orientation on Monday, Mayor Marc Brian Lim said he would request the DOLE for another batch of beneficiaries in the city.
Lim said they appealed for the program from President Rodrigo Duterte and Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III to help needy residents gain employment opportunities and bring home food for their families.
TUPAD program provides temporary employment to displaced workers, underemployed, and seasonal workers.
The beneficiaries are tasked to disinfect or clean their communities depending on the work needed in their respective villages. (PNA)
