The Manila city government has completed the construction of its Mega Covid-19 Field Hospital in Rizal Park in 52 days, ahead of its vowed 60-day deadline.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Friday personally thanked the construction workers, laborers, and contractors who made the project a reality.

The city government allotted PHP154 million for the construction of the 336-bed capacity Manila Mega Covid-19 Field Hospital.

Domagoso said the facility would be for mild and moderate coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.

He noted that it would help doctors, nurses, and medical front-liners as it is expected to “unclog” hospitals and avoid cases of Covid-19 patients left unattended while waiting to be admitted.

“Maraming maraming salamat. Ang pangako natin, 60 days. Nagawa natin in 52 days. Gusto ko lang ibahagi sa inyo na tayo ay nagtagumpay. Bahagi kayo niyan (Thank you very much. We pledged to finish it in 60 days but we did it in 52 days. I just want to share with you that we succeeded. You are a part of it),” Domagoso said.

He told the workers that they were a part of this history in the city and that many people were thankful for their hard work and dedication that led to the early completion of the field hospital.

“On behalf of the people of Manila and from our medical front-liners na magkakaroon ng kaluwagan dahil dito, ay makakaramdam sila ng kapanatagan na ang kanilang pamahalaang lungsod na kanilang kinabibilangan ay hindi natigil na gumawa ng mga gawaing bayan na kapaki-pakinabang sa mga taong maaaring maimpeksyon ng Covid-19 (who will have peace of mind knowing that the city government did not stop building facilities that would help those who may be infected with Covid-19),” Domagoso said.

“If China did it, if Italy did it, (the) Philippines can do it also,” he added. (PNA)
