Manila and Quezon City evacuated some residents on Wednesday as Typhoon Jolina dumped heavy rains over parts of Luzon.
In an advisory, the Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) said around 100 families from Barangay 20 at the Isla Puting Bato were evacuated at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Officials of Barangay 105 in Tondo also evacuated 100 families to their covered court.
Meanwhile, daycare workers of Barangay 128, also in Tondo are on standby for possible evacuation of residents.
Meanwhile, Barangay 649 chairperson Diana Espinosa, together with Baseco Social Welfare Head Rio Pangan said the evacuation of their residents started at around 5 p.m.
Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso announced the suspension of work for city hall workers at 2 p.m. due to bad weather.
However, excluded from the directive are the employees from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, MDSW, Manila Health Department and staff from the city’s six district hospitals.
MPIO chief Julius Leonen said the Manila Police District provided assistance in the city’s evacuation efforts.
In Quezon City, officials of Barangay Bagong Silangan started the evacuation of residents from low-lying areas to its covered court while residents from Barangay Apolonio Samson were brought to the Apolonio Samson Elementary School
The QCDRRMO, together with the QC Police District conducted a forced evacuation of residents from Roxas District to the General Roxas Elementary School.
As of 4:30 p.m., the city government has yet to provide data on the number of families that were evacuated.
The city government also urged residents and families located in low-lying areas to evacuate to safer grounds.
