The Philippine National Police (PNP) has thanked the Public Safety Savings Loan Association Inc. (PSSLAI) for its donations of 60 body-worn cameras (BWCs) units and other equipment which will boost the operational capability of the police force.

PNP Chief Guillermo Eleazar on Saturday said the donated BWCs will further boost the effort of the police leadership in strengthening transparency and accountability of their personnel amid doubts and speculations that hounded the organization in the past few years, especially in the campaign against illegal drugs.

He added the donated BWCs will be distributed to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Anti-Cyber Crime Group (ACG), Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG), PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG), and PNP Integrity Monitoring Group (IMEG) to strengthen their investigative capability in all their operations and probe of cases.

Aside from the 60 body-worn cameras, the PPSLAI also donated a new Toyota Innova, 10 computers, 13 printers, 11 scanners, three shredders, and a photocopy machine to the PNP.

Eleazar thanked the PSSLAI Board of Trustees and management led by PSSLAI chairman and chief executive officer Lucas Managuelod for the donation.

Last June, the PNP launched a body-worn camera system with the distribution of a total of 2,696 BWCs to 171 city police stations and various offices nationwide.

However, the PNP needs 30,000 BWCs more to cover all police stations and units of the entire police force. (PNA)
