Streaming provider Netflix has announced the release of its first five smartphone games, which will be accessible initially on Android and on Apple iOS devices in the months ahead, according to a blog post.

The company has already begun to roll out games within its Android app itself including a mix of casual games and those based on its popular original TV series, “Stranger Things” so users won’t have to leave the Netflix app to play them all.

Games will be available via a row on the homepage, a new games tab, or a drop-down menu as they are integrated into Netflix’s main interface.

While early games would require installation, games will eventually be available in a number of formats, some requiring a download and others requiring an internet connection.

Advertisements, in-app purchases, and additional fees are not included in any of Netflix’s games.

Netflix is not the only company expanding its gaming options. Amazon, which owns Prime Video, has invested in Luna, its cloud gaming platform, and also operates its own gaming studio.

Netflix, on the other hand, would be unusual in that it would create games as part of its single subscription, whereas others advertise their gaming services separately or in bundles with a range of other subscriptions.
