Security in the bus terminal here has been heightened as the 86th Araw ng Dabaw activities started to kick off over the weekend, an official of the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) said Tuesday.

The preparation, according to DCOTT manager Aisa Usop, is also intended for the observance of the Holy Week next month.

“The police are doing the rounds inside the terminal. The Task Force Davao (TFD) also augments its personnel during peak season,” Usop said, adding that the influx of passengers is inevitable whenever there are huge events in the city.

Usop said they have earlier coordinated with the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and TFD for additional security personnel to man the terminal in ensuring the safety of the passengers.

Bus operators were also directed to add buses and seek special permits from the Land Transportation and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for the celebration of the Araw ng Dabaw and Holy Week.

Usop said the no-pick-up policy for bus units outside terminals remains in effect.

Meanwhile, Angel Sumagaysay, head of the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), said around 14,000 security and safety personnel have been deployed for the monthlong Araw ng Dabaw celebration alone.

Sumagaysay reminded residents and visitors alike to follow safety and security protocols while discouraging them from carrying backpacks, non-transparent water containers, and sharp objects during the festivities. (PNA)
