Filipino actress and singer Alexa Ilacad show promise in the theater industry as her citation for one category at the 14th Gawad Buhay Awards Midyear Citations gets a nod.

The Philippine Educational Theater Association announced on Wednesday that their musical play “Walang Aray” secured a total of 21 citations in the Gawad Buhay 2023 Midyear Citations.
Some of these categories are Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Musical Direction, Outstanding Costume Design, Male Lead Performance in a Musical, and Female Lead Performance in a Musical, which Ilacad falls under.

“Walang Aray” is a musical adaptation of Severino Reyes’ zarzuela, “Walang Sugat,” by Filipino playwright and director Rody Vera, starred by KD Estrada, Gio Gahol, Jon Abella, Alexa Ilacad, Marynor Madamesila, and Shaira Opsimar.

The musical is Ilacad’s first theater project and will return to the stage from October 6 to 22.

Gawad Buhay is the Philippine awarding body that recognizes excellence in the performing arts. The final nominees and winners of the 14th award ceremony will be announced at the end of the year.
