About 130 households in a remote village in Glan town, Sarangani province are expected to benefit from a PHP1.1 million farm-to-market road (FMR) project funded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 12 (Soccsksargen), an official said Thursday.

DSWD-12 Director Loreto Cabaya said the FMR, costing PHP1,152,855, benefits not only households in Barangay Taluya but also residents in nearby areas. It was turned over to Taluya village officials on Wednesday afternoon.

Cabaya said the 130 linear-meter road project is part of the government’s disaster response projects under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) Disaster Response Operations Modality.

Glan’s town government also provided PHP23,500 as a counterpart contribution to the project.

Based on the KALAHI-CIDSS data, the road concreting project has listed 131 actual household beneficiaries in the area alone.

Cabaya said a paved road would make it easier for the farmers and vegetable growers to transport their products to the market and would provide students with easier access to school.

It will also enable health authorities to respond to the needs of the community, he added. (PNA)
