The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Oriental is holding a two-day Diskwento Caravan-Noche Buena Edition in Bayawan City on Wednesday and Thursday to benefit residents in the southern part of the province.

DTI Development Specialist – Consumer Protection Division and Information Officer Krystle Jade Bato said the agency chose Bayawan as this year’s venue for the Diskwento Caravan since it is the biggest city in the south and more people would benefit from the fair.

“Residents of Bayawan City and nearby towns will no longer have to travel to Dumaguete City to avail of low prices of quality goods that are being offered during the Diskwento Caravan,” Bato said.

Discounted items range between 3 to 10 percent lower than the suggested retail price and sometimes being offered in bulk for bigger savings.

At least seven manufacturers and distributors are participating in the caravan including bread, canned meat, cooking oil, detergent soap, instant noodles, milk, biscuits and other prime commodities that the DTI monitors in the market as well as Noche Buena products.

Also participating are some retailers of products covered in the DTI’s Product Certification Scheme and those that have been issued the Philippine Standard (PS) license and/or the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) certificate.

Among those products with PS or ICC mark available in the caravan are Christmas lights, household items and other electronic devices.

DTI-Negros Oriental provincial director Nimfa Virtucio called on residents in the southern areas to avail of the discount.

Bato said the Diskwento Caravan was originally designed to respond to the needs of the consumers especially during calamities.

This time, the Diskwento Caravan is held in time for the holiday season, in partnership with the Bayawan City government to provide reasonably-priced quality products to consumers, Bato said. (PNA)
