The Police Regional Office 5 (Bicol) sees strengthened police visibility in Albay province after the launch of the Bike Patrol Unit on Tuesday.

In an interview, PRO5 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said using bicycles enables a more efficient and adaptable approach to patrol, facilitating officers to cover more ground and reach areas.

“The Bike Patrol is our crime prevention approach through police visibility. With less pollution and fewer expenses in gasoline, we want to encourage our police force to engage in Bike Patrol as part of our campaign,” Dizon said.

He said bike patrollers’ presence reinforces the community’s confidence in the police force, contributing to a safer and more secure environment for everyone.

“For a start, we have 20 bike patrollers that will be seen every morning, every day in Daraga town and Legazpi City here in Albay. We will replicate this in every province in the region. We want the people to feel the sincere and genuine police visibility,” he said.

Dizon said the program is part of the commitment of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Bicol to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the public, ensuring that the community feels secure and supported by the police.

He added that with the bike patrollers, police officers work to control and deter criminal activities while responding swiftly to incidents in the community. (PNA)
