At least 1,977 parents in Samar province have received cash incentive for attending learning sessions meant to capacitate them to tutor their children.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development completed on Wednesday the payout to all recipients under the Tara, Basa (let us read) Tutoring Program in two cities and 19 towns in Samar.

Under the cash-for-work component of the program, each parent received PHP4,700 equivalent to the 20-day parents’ sessions they attended from July 1-26.

“These learning sessions aim to empower parents and guardians with knowledge and skills to support their children’s education and improve family dynamics,” the DSWD regional office said in a statement.

In Samar, the tutorial program also served 1,981 learners and 375 college students who carried out the learning sessions for learners and parents.

Each college student who served as tutors and youth development workers received PHP8,100 cash incentive to support their basic needs in school. This is on top of the capacity development and service credit they earned for participating the program.

Parents and guardians of child beneficiaries are also provided with PHP235 daily under the cash-for-work scheme by the DSWD.

The cash rewards are given to parents and guardians for attending these sessions and assisting their children in preparing their needs for learning and reading and in their after-reading assignments. (PNA)
