The province of Camiguin began registering beneficiaries Tuesday for the expanded Ayuda Para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP), which provides subsidized rice to low-income households.
Governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo said in a statement that AKAP seeks to enhance food security for families earning minimum or below-minimum wages.
“Soon, we will experience buying affordable rice intended for every household,” he said.
The initial registration took place in the municipality of Mambajao, with other towns in the province set to follow in the coming weeks.
Under the program, beneficiaries can purchase rice at reduced prices from accredited stores, helping alleviate the financial burden of staple food costs. (PNA)
