The new Pampanga Public Market rebuilt at the cost of PHP400 million officially opened on Friday and is expected to ensure that this city remains the province’s commercial center.

The state-of-art market that occupies 30,685 square meters (sqm) of land was inaugurated by Senator Imee Marcos, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. and Pampanga 1st District Rep. Carmelo Lazatin II.

“This new Pampanga Public Market is not just a building. It’s a symbol of our dedication to uplifting our local vendors and ensuring that Angeles City remains a hub of trade and commerce,” Lazatin said during his inauguration speech.

The market features a 2,682-sqm dry goods section on the ground floor, alongside a spacious food court.

The second and third floors house the steel parking facilities with 251 slots and a dedicated elevator, ensuring accessibility for both vendors and patrons.

A separate wing, with 50 stalls, caters to eateries.

The project, completed in 588 calendar days, replaced the original market which was destroyed by a fire in 2020.

Meanwhile, the mayor thanked Marcos for her unwavering support to Angeles City.

“Senator Marcos has been a steadfast partner in Angeles City’s progress. Her contributions, including the PHP20 million she facilitated for the repair of the old Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center, demonstrate her commitment to public service and community development,” Lazatin said.

Orly, a vendor, said the new marker will provide convenience to both customers and sellers.

“Malaki pong bagay sa aming mga vendor ang magkaroon ng ganito kagandang pasilidad kung saan nakahiwalay ang wet at dry section ng mga paninda namin (It’s a big help to us vendors to have a beautiful facility such as this, where the wet and dry sections of our goods are separate),“ Orly said. (PNA)
