The city government has provided emergency shelter assistance to 91,749 residents affected by calamities from January to November this year, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) said Thursday.
The shelters are equipped with child-friendly spaces and dedicated areas for breastfeeding mothers, ensuring the needs of vulnerable individuals were addressed during emergencies, the CSWDO said in a statement.
The office also supplied food packs, deployed mobile kitchens, and offered psychosocial support to those affected by calamities and other emergencies.
“We have partnered with the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in the response aspect for calamities,” the CSWDO said.
As part of its disaster preparedness initiatives, the CSWDO participated in various activities, including this year’s second River-Wide Simulation Exercise, to enhance response capabilities during flooding events.
Over the past two months, CSWDO personnel also underwent disaster response training, including Basic Training on the Management of the Dead and Missing Persons, for members of the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. (PNA)
