Education Secretary Sonny Angara on Wednesday hailed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his support to the Department of Education (DepEd) and vowed to continue the sector’s reforms as the country celebrates the Yuletide season.

“Sa suporta ng ating Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at ating mga kasangga sa pamahalaan at pribadong sektor, magpapatuloy tayo sa pagsusulong ng mga programa at reporma upang iangat ang sistema ng basic education sa bansa (With the support of our President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and our partners in the public and private sectors, we will continue to pursue programs and reforms to elevate basic education system in the country),” he said in a statement.

Among the reforms Marcos earlier promised for teachers are career progression, upskilling and reskilling opportunities, increased teaching allowance, medical allowance, and Service Recognition Incentive (SRI), along with eased workload and doubled vacation service credits.

DepEd also advanced efforts to improve learners’ problem-solving and critical thinking skills, continued curriculum review to ensure learners’ employability, and secured partnerships for digitalization, classroom construction, and provision of learning resources.

Angara also vowed to push for modernized and quality education for all learners across the country in 2025.

“Sa susunod na taon, muli nating pagtibayin ang diwa ng bayanihang Pilipino upang maisulong ang naabot, moderno, at dekalidad na edukasyon para sa ating mga guro at mag-aaral. Basta’t tulong-tulong, makakamit natin ang pagbabago sa edukasyon ng Bagong Pilipinas (Next year, let’s fortify anew the essence of Filipino heroes to attain an inclusive, modern, and quality education for our teachers and learners. As long as we’re helping each other, we will achieve the changes in the education under the New Philippines),” he said.

The education chief also expressed his hopes for joyous holiday celebration for DepEd teaching and non-teaching staff, as he thanked them for their unwavering support under his leadership. (PNA)
