The Department of Agrarian Reform’s (DAR) continuous assistance through essential farm equipment and machinery, including training, has helped Palawan farmers boost productivity and enhance their livelihood.

In a news release on Thursday, DAR reiterated its commitment to empowering farmers nationwide and helping them increase agricultural productivity for a sustainable future.

“This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive and that of Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado M. Estrella III to strengthen the livelihood activities of agrarian reform beneficiaries’ organizations (ARBOs) nationwide,” the statement read.

In a radio interview on Feb. 16, some leaders of local cooperatives in the province thanked DAR for its interventions that have significantly impacted farming communities.

Malalong-Binasbas Agriculture Cooperative (MABIACO) and Palawan Agrarian Reform Communities Cooperative Federation (PARCOFED) chairman Lovimen Gallego highlighted how DAR’s support extends beyond land distribution.

“DAR’s support goes beyond land distribution. They have provided us with farm equipment and machinery such as trailers, tractors, harvesters, and hauling trucks, which significantly improve our production and income,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of three farming cooperatives in Palawan, Gallego said DAR’s unwavering support helps them extend their services to the agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs).

He said that MABIACO, established in 2017, now has 251 members engaged in agricultural enterprises, credit and financial assistance, and farm equipment rental services.

Gallego said these resources enable cooperatives to assist ARB members and small farmers in the community, fostering a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural sector.

Jaime Marin, chairman of the Malalong Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MMPC), also underscored the importance of capacity-building programs provided by DAR.

“DAR does not just provide land—it ensures that ARBs have the necessary support services to maximize our land’s potential and improve our livelihood,” he said. (PNA)
