The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Bicol Region distributed 11,796 family food packs (FFPs) to partner-beneficiaries of Project LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) at BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished).

In an interview Friday, Claudio Villareal, chief of DSWD-5’s Disaster Response Management Division, said the FFPs valued at PHP8 million are part of the food-for-work program designed for the sustainable implementation of their projects.

“To support the sustainability of the program, beneficiaries receive FFPs through the food-for-work initiative as part of our management of welfare goods. Local government units need to submit project proposals for their beneficiaries involved in Project LAWA at BINHI,” he added.

Villareal said the FFPs can sustain a family of five for up to two days.

“Each partner can receive food packs depending on the work or duties they are engaged in, such as site monitoring, replanting and maintaining sites,” he said.

The project’s core objectives remain the same, focusing on sustainability through this food-for-work approach, he said.
