The Laguna Medical Center (LMC) earned top honors from national health agencies this year, reinforcing its role as a premier public hospital in the province.

The recognitions were highlighted during the first Monday flag ceremony of August, which LMC led in celebration of National Hospital Week.

Danilo Lucas, Acting Provincial Information Officer of the Laguna provincial government, said LMC was recognized by the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) – Calabarzon as the top government hospital in the region with the highest number of point-of-service enrollees in 2024.

The award affirms the hospital’s commitment to helping financially challenged patients gain immediate PhilHealth coverage for urgent medical care, he added.

The Department of Health Center for Health Development IV-A also honored LMC as a Newborn Screening Achiever, recognizing the hospital’s active role in the early detection of congenital disorders among infants — a crucial step in ensuring lifelong health outcomes.

“We continue to serve every Lagunense with integrity, competence, and heart,” Dr. Judy Rondilla, LMC Chief of Hospital, said as she presented the institution’s 2024 accomplishments through an audiovisual report.

From January to June 2024 alone, LMC performed 11,449 surgical operations, rendered 195,711 ancillary services, and accommodated 57,751 outpatient consultations.

Through its Medical Assistance for Indigent and Financially Incapable Patients Program, the hospital provided financial aid to 12,532 patients, ensuring access to treatment without undue financial burden.

Rondilla noted that the hospital’s internal culture also supports patient care through values-based service. Known for its motto “Bawal ang Mataray” (No to Ill-Tempered), the staff is trained to uphold respect, kindness, and empathy in all interactions.

Now a Level 2 General Hospital with 631 employees, LMC continues to expand specialized services, including animal bite treatment, outpatient HIV and AIDS treatment, and ophthalmologic surgery, among others. (PNA)
