The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao (DSWD-11) reported Wednesday it has released over PHP700,000 in stipends to 75 members of the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) across the Davao Region.

The stipends were for their service under the Government Internship Program (GIP) from July to September.

In a statement, DSWD-11 said each PYAP member received a stipend of PHP9,607.50 for 30 days of service rendered from June 2 to July 31.

“Through this program, DSWD-11 strengthens its commitment to empowering young people by providing opportunities for capacity-building, civic engagement, and practical skills development,” the agency said.

It added the stipends serve as a recognition of the youth’s role in public service and their involvement in development initiatives.

Meanwhile, in a move to further empower the region’s youth, DSWD-11, through its Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY), signed a memorandum of agreement with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Davao (TESDA-11) and the Bureau of Plant Industry-Davao (BPI-11) on Sept. 23.

DSWD-11 Regional Director Rhuelo Aradanas said the collaboration will provide training and livelihood opportunities through programs such as Bread and Pastry Production, helping youth acquire relevant skills and improve their employability.

Since 2017, the three agencies have trained more than 475 RRCY residents in fields such as masonry, welding, housekeeping, motorcycle servicing, agriculture, and food services. (PNA)
