The Dinagat Islands provincial government released over PHP1.5 million in medical assistance, officials reported Monday.

Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. said their Remedy program provides critical support for hospitalization, dialysis and funeral services.

“Through the Remedy Action Center, we are turning compassion into concrete support for our people, especially those in need,” Demerey said.

The aid was distributed to patients at three hospitals in Surigao City, with the Surigao Medical Center receiving the largest share, according to a news release.

Recipients expressed gratitude for the assistance.

“The Remedy program helped me settle my laboratory fees amounting to more than PHP12,000 due to my kidney problem,” beneficiary Imelda Mendoza said.

The program collaborates with medical institutions in Surigao, Davao, Butuan, and Cebu to cater to patients requiring specialized care.

“This program is more than numbers. It is about ensuring that no family faces illness, loss or hardship alone,” Demerey said.

He added that by providing medical aid, free funeral services and transportation assistance, the provincial government is building a province where care and solidarity are at the heart of governance.

Imelda Mendoza, a resident of Barangay Mauswagon, was among the recipients of the medical assistance.

“The Remedy program helped me settle my laboratory fees amounting to more than PHP12,000 due to my kidney problem,” Mendoza was quoted as saying. (PNA)
